Meet Charity Majaw Manager HR and Admin
Let us pick up the story of Charity in the year 2009.
Charity, from Shillong, Meghalaya, is a young mother. She lives with her four siblings—three sisters and one brother, her mother, grandmother and husband. No one else in her household has a steady job. So, she needs to work and hopes for a right job fit.
Additional challenge she faces—her daughter Rupa needs constant care as she is differently abled. Charity needs to employ full–time help to take care of the child, which adds to the cost of running the family.
Charity is working in the services department of an auto dealership, Mahindra & Mahindra, Shillong. But, she is looking for better job opportunities.
She has a passion for computers.
Her colleague in the company she works for tells her about Chillibreeze, as she knows about her interest in computers.
Charity fills in the Chillibreeze job application form.
She is so keen to be given a chance to work at Chillibreeze that she follows up with the HR department to find out about the status of her application! She is called for an interview and is selected. Charity joins Chillibreeze in November 2009. She is nervous, but determined to succeed!
Let us move to March 2014 and see where Charity is:
Charity is now Asst. Manager, a post she has held from 2012
She is leading a team of eight people. Her team delivers to global customers who have exacting needs. Her work schedule is tight—she needs to be disciplined, to balance work and home. Her skills at work have improved—PPT formatting skills, communication skills and team management skills. Many of these she has learnt through internal training systems in Chillibreeze. Charity is now Asst.Manager, a post she has held from 2012.
At home too she brings in more discipline—using insights she has imbibed from her workplace.
She is now able to support her family in times of need. For example, her brother, who is undergoing vocational training in ITI Shillong, had an accident in 2012 and needed surgery and Charity was there for him. Her family home needed a new walk way as the earlier one was very uneven and she got it done, see images below. Charity says her second daughter Risa loves to run and play in this walk way.
Charity says: "When I first joined Chillibreeze, I did not think I would fit in. I did not imagine that I will lead a team! I now manage a team of eight. I have big dreams for myself and for the company! There is a purpose to life and to work. Chillibreeze has touched my life, my family's and my community's too. One thing that comes to mind—in 2013 all the managers got a family gift voucher to a restaurant. Believe me, that was the first time ever that we went out as a family to any restaurant! Everyone was so happy! Unfortunately, I did not take any photo! My family is thankful to Chillibreeze in so many ways!"
"Also taxi comes to drop us every night, other companies never do that! It is so much like a family".
Note: Charity’s growth in the company was despite a personal tragedy. Charity lost her daughter Rupa in the year 2012, but the good news is she is a mother to Risa, born on 19th November 2012. Risa is a healthy and a happy child growing up well! Chillibreeze’s policies of maternity leave helped Charity to take a break when Risa was born.
