The much-awaited Orientation program for the new Chillibreeze members was held on 6th August, 2016. Here is a report of this joyful event as registered by me, a newcomer at Chillibreeze. The orientation event is a special one that parents and relatives look forward to as they can visit the company where their wards work and see for themselves what they do.
This was my very first experience. It was such a pleasure to see smartly dressed parents and relatives of the new Chillibreeze staff streaming in to take their seats while the Chillibreeze team steering the show got ready with their presentations.
Introduction to the Company, It’s People & Values It Stands For
Sissy Warshong—the anchor was very articulate and presented the program without any flaw. She looked like the right choice. Using the local language (Khasi) in between made a big difference as the visitors could understand better.
The program started off with the introduction of each new Chillibreeze staff member.
Sissy continued with the description of what Chillibreeze is and emphasized on the key values in our Mission Statement and also mentioned that one of our objectives is to open a platform for local talent and providing opportunities for them.
Chillibreeze is already a self–sustaining and profitable company and Sissy discussed the challenges faced in terms of infrastructure, Finance, Technology and man/woman–power during its inception.
OUR DIRECTORS
The next slide showed our Directors and the History of Chillibreeze right from when Ralph and Joanna set foot in Shillong to the upcoming 10th Anniversary of Chillibreeze.
What We Do and Who We Serve
After this, Sissy handed over the presenter baton to Miramon Suting who explained what we do and how customers find us from all over the world. She did a good job describing how the Oneshape team handles this important area of getting people to see us through our site and how various features like speed, security, updated software impacts our Customers’ experience.
Marbahun Basaiawmoit was the next presenter and described the core services we offer and how the sales and marketing team handle customers right from the contact form down to the agreements. Her confident and smooth presentation was well received by everyone.
HR Team’s Role in Finding the Right People & Taking Care of Employees
Bansiewdorlang Mylliemngap, a new member of the H.R. Team, spoke about the responsibilities of this team. He shared with the audience some interesting bits like how the social media is used to draw the indigenous people looking for jobs back to their hometown. How a large number of them are talented individuals and the HR's role is to attract them to opportunities in Chillibreeze.
He explained that HR team also manages extracurricular activities for the staff, which includes outdoor picnic events, barbecue, Christmas party, Chillibreeze month, trekking and a whole lot more. Also, this team coordinates the ‘Awards and Recognition’ program, an annual event to recognize individuals for their performance.
Admin Team—Keep the Company ‘Engine’ Moving
Next, Gary Lyngdoh walked us through all the activities that the Admin team is responsible for and executes on a daily basis—from maintenance check (electricity, sound, projector, etc) to drawing up meeting schedules. And, they handle the purchase of office equipment and other needs of the company.
Gary was followed by Pynshailang Lanong, the recently awarded ‘Rising star’, who surprised us all with his smooth and detailed presentation of the Office Assistant’s role. He touched upon the importance of cleanliness and how this is kept in mind all through the day—while serving the essential morning and afternoon beverage (coffee, tea) and preparing dinner for members working late hours to finish deadlines. The Admin team, he said, is also responsible for the transportation arrangement too, to take staff safely back home at the end of the day.
The IT Team
Demander Hujon handled this serious subject very nicely by relating stories which made the crowd burst into laughter! For example, he shared with them a story in Chillibreeze history of how years back obsolete methods were used to fix blackout issues. Jokes aside, Demander went on to describe his team's role in maintaining computer hardware, software; buying genuine licenses for software, updating them regularly and ensuring that internet connectivity is smooth, fast and reliable.
The Money Managers
The last team to be introduced was the Finance team. Alfred Kharpuri, a team member, in his quiet way, shared with the audience the responsibilities of the team—like preparing bills to customers, handling customer’s payment like credit card, banks, following taxes and government rules and regulations. If not for Alfred's explanation even I would not be clear about the Account team's roles and responsibilities!
Then Alfred talked about the benefits that Chillibreeze gives its employees. He mentioned the competitive and attractive salaries, along with the various other benefits they get, like the Gratuity Fund, Provident Fund, Health Insurance, the annual increments, bonus and leave encashment.
Adding Value to Customers, Staff and Families
Coming to the end of the program, Sissy highlighted how the company is providing value to the family, employees, customers, and society. She then quickly looked around to choose a Chillibreeze member to share his/her experience. I tried to avoid eye contact with Sissy for fear of her choosing me, but unfortunately it was too late! Though very nervous, I shared my experiences—that Chillibreeze provides a friendly environment and my colleagues are ready to help me in any problems I face and that I love working here in Chillibreeze. I was telling it the way it was. Yes, it has been a fun experience, these last 6 months in Chillibreeze.
What Did the Audience Think?
The parents/family members were asked to share their thoughts about Chillibreeze. It was Fassen's mother, an Economics teacher who volunteered and shared her thoughts. She said that it was important to have job satisfaction and team spirit in a working atmosphere and she was happy that Chillibreeze provided that and her son is a part of it. Fassen's father thought that Chillibreeze has transformed Fassen's life’s; before he was a bit lazy and now he is always punctual and gets up early every day. He has now become more responsible. They both ended with their blessings and wishes for Chillibreeze.
All were provided with refreshments before they left. The whole event was spectacular. I am proud and grateful to be working here, that too with so many talented colleagues. I look forward to being here for many years. Live long and prosper Chillibreeze!
