Things are beginning to have a new kind of Normal, and I am relating to virtual communication. This virtual interaction was made available in 1994 in India since the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) provided the teleconferencing facility at IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) headquarters in New Delhi for the first time. During that time, few colleges hardly make use of them as a means of online teaching.
Oops! Let me not go off track here...What I wanted to share is that it must have been due to the Pandemic that most schools, colleges, businesses, or the corporate world are moving towards the digital era.
When it comes to interviewing, too, we are doing it through a virtual process. If a candidate completes filling out the online application, the next step is a virtual interaction. Candidates who fit the job positions are called for an Online interview or a Virtual interaction through Zoom or WhatsApp or any other means of virtual communication.
I bet most of us are quite new or are used to such a medium. As for me, I remember having my first online interview with Chillibreeze. It was my first time attending any online interaction for a job interview. I was nervous about how it will go and did a lot of preparation before the interview.
Want to know how I prepared for Chillibreeze Virtual Interaction? Here are a few tips on how to prepare for an online interview at Chillibreeze.
1. Before the Interview
The main points to be technically prepared for the Online Interview are:
Check and read through the email properly and read it several times if you have to so that you do not miss out on the full context. Check that the Zoom link, date and time of the interview and the interviewer's name are clearly stated. If you are new to Zoom, it is better to discover and even have a practice demo with your friend, cousin, or anyone to help you prepare.
Make sure that you have the interview using your desktop, like a computer or a laptop. If possible, avoid using your Smartphone because you would not want to keep holding your phone if it is a 30mins or 1-hour interview. Give some rest to your precious hands.
Ensure that your laptop is fully charged, and if there are some technical glitches, make sure that you can quickly shift it using your computer. A Smartphone is advisable to use if there is no other way or else it will not look professional because the screen will not be properly fit or visible on the interviewer's laptop.
Ensure that you have a backup plan if anything goes wrong with your internet connection/laptop/computer/electricity. Although these may not be fully in our control, we can still avoid such distractions.
The main points to prepare yourself for an outstanding Online interview:
Knowledge of the job description: Know what you are applying for and read through the job description on the Chillibreeze website on the Careers page.
Research on the Company: Prepare yourself by learning more about the company. You can go through their website and read about them and their blogs (that was when I got to read about "The Value of Work: The Most Important Lesson at Chillibreeze"). I can say that this blog gave me an extra point to get into Chillibreeze as I could share my thoughts on that blog.
Prepare your settings: Set your background neat and clean. Make sure you do not have anything that will bring a distraction to the interviewer. Log in for the interview 5 minutes before the time.
2. During the Online Interview
- Facial expression: Fix your eye and look at the camera or webcam during the interview.
- Present yourself professionally: Since it will be online, your sitting position should be presentable with hand movement while speaking and be authentic in what you say.
- Prepare your documents: Ensure that you have your resume close to you and your notes so that you can refer to them if required.
3. After the Online Interview
- Follow up on the interview: Check your email often to know if they have shared any email and at the same time respond to the email when received.
- Positive attitude towards the results: Whatever the outcome may be, leave a message to their email. Have a positive attitude towards the outcome as to whether you get in or not. You have overcome and experienced another challenging chapter of your career.
Those were the 3 phases that helped me prepare for the online interview. I hope that these points will help you have an outstanding and presentable online interview too. To know more about these tips, you can watch the video "Online interview tips".
P.S A bonus tip is that be YOURSELF and Don't forget to smile 😊 during the interview!
